Telling Stories that Matter

Award-winning journalist Colton Shone is the very definition of a multimedia journalist. He shoots, writes, edits most of the stories he reports. It's a challenge he takes on ambitiously everyday. He loves to write but telling a story with words isn't enough! He loves the visual aspect of TV news and strives to be like the great photographers in the newsroom.

Colton joined the CBS 5 news team in October 2010.  He's had the opportunity to cover some very impactful stories: The anniversary of the deadly Tucson shootings that left former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded,  ravenous Arizona wildfires that threatened several communities, and the national search for missing Tucson girl Isabel Celis. Colton believes everyone has a story to tell and it's his job to listen.

A Phoenix native, Colton was crazy lucky he didn't have to travel far for his first on-air job. He started out as a radio reporter and anchor at News/Talk 92.3 KTAR.

It was there Colton was awarded with an Edward R. Murrow Award by the Radio Television Digital News Association. He also won three Associated Press awards for his feature pieces. Several of his stories were heard around the county on ABC National Radio News.

A member of the Navajo Nation, Colton believes in giving back to his community by getting Native American stories out there. He also loves the Rez! A member of the Native American Journalists Association, he volunteers at many high school and college workshops trying to get Native American students interested in journalism.

Colton graduated from ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Go Sun Devils!
